I am delighted to participate at this special event of the World Digital Economic Forum and the Digital E-commerce International Cooperation Forum in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. I have been asked to share with you my thoughts on e-commerce in my country. At this junction, I consider it necessary to give a brief introduction of my country, Nigeria.

Nigeria is located in the West African sub region. A country with a land mass of over 923,763 km², with a population of about 250 million people, and over 70 percent of the population are youths. Nigeria constitutes about 60 percent of the West African population, and is the biggest market in Africa, as well as a gate-way to over 400 million strong Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS).

Alibaba company has announced its intention to develop a global e-payment platform to facilitate worldwide settlement and payment of goods and services across countries and around the globe. This innovation would address the challenges of distance and the bottleneck of the old ways of settling international business activities.

This would save time of travelling, resources as well as the difficulty of processing international payments through Third party, which usually take days to conclude.
