Russian Oil Offers Soar as China's Supply Options Narrow
Asking prices for Russian crude shipped from the Pacific coast are surging as Chinese refiners seek alternatives to disrupted Middle Eastern supplies.

November-loading ESPO crude was offered at premiums of more than $20 a barrel to Brent futures on a delivered basis, Bloomberg reported, citing traders. A transaction at that level would represent a doubling of the premium paid last week.

Demand for ESPO, which can reach China in less than a week, has risen as a U.S. blockade restricts independent refiners' access to their preferred Iranian oil, according to the report.

Continued disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are also driving Chinese refiners to source crude from more distant producers.

A Chinese refiner was reported to have bought cargoes including Djeno from the Republic of the Congo and Angola's Plutonio at premiums exceeding $20 a barrel to Brent. Offers for West African and Brazilian grades have reached around $30 above the benchmark, the traders said.

The rising premiums come as global benchmark prices also climb. Brent futures settled 3.4% higher at $101.21 a barrel on Wednesday, their highest close since May 22, after renewed U.S.-Iran attacks on tankers heightened concerns over Middle Eastern supplies.
