Andy Yang– CEO of 500px, VC, Investor
Andy has spent the last fifteen years in technology as an investor (angel and institutional), banker, consultant, advisor, and working in industry. Currently he is CEO of 500px, a premium photography community funded by Andreessen Horowitz, Harrison, Metal, and ffVC. Previously he was investor at Extreme Startups and a venture capitalist at Relay Ventures.
As a native Californian, Andy worked at two leading Silicon Valley companies, Netflix and Chegg in strategic planning and analysis roles. Prior to these experiences, Andy was an investment banker at Thomas Weisel Partners and Goldman Sachs in the TMT coverage groups. Andy started his career at Accenture, deployed to the financial services industry helping mortgage banks and insurance companies with IT strategy, design & implementation. He also spent six months in Calcutta on a secondment that established a microfinance training institution called Reach India.
Andy is passionate about early stage startups, technology, ecommerce, subscription business models, and working with tenacious entrepreneurs. He's been a catalyst in the Toronto startup community since he moved 4+ years ago.
Andy holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BSc from the University of California at Berkeley.
Derek Szeto – Founder of RedFalgDeals.com; Founder and CEO of Wirkn
Derek Szeto is a Queen’s Commerce ’05 graduate and Founder of RedFlagDeals.com, Canada’s largest bargain-shopping community with over 3.5 million monthly unique visitors. The site was launched in November 2000 to help Canadians find the best deals online and offline while provides a targeted channel for advertisers to reach Canadian shoppers.
RedFlagDeals was acquired by Yellow Pages Group in February of 2010. Derek went on to become entrepreneur-in-residence at Kinetic Café, an active angel investor, and is now CEO of Wirkn.
Wirkn is a mobile-first job search and recruitment platform for shift-based workers. Wirkn is changing the way retail and hospitality industry recruits, trains, and engages young workers with the power of mobile. Wirkn is now available in the Google Play and Apple App Store and currently piloting with international brands including Aldo Group.
