On September 7, 2026, the inauguration ceremony of the Consulate of Mexico in Chongqing took place at the main venue in Beijing in a hybrid offline–online format. Roberto Velasco, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico; Cai Wei, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China; Huang Maojun, Vice-Mayor of Chongqing; and Jesús Seade, Mexican Ambassador to China, attended the ceremony in person in Beijing. Minister Enrique Escamilla, Designated Head of the New Consulate, witnessed the event via video link from the Chongqing sub-venue.
领事布局新里程碑
墨西哥驻重庆领事馆，是墨西哥近二十年来在中国设立的第一处全新领事机构。随着该领事馆落地，墨西哥在华领事布局现已包括北京大使馆，广州、上海、香港总领事馆，以及重庆领事馆，服务网络覆盖中国多个区域。
This consulate is Mexico's first brand‑new consular post set up in China in nearly two decades. With its opening, Mexico's diplomatic presence in China now comprises the embassy in Beijing, consulates‑general in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong, as well as the new consulate in Chongqing, forming a service network covering multiple regions across the country.
渝墨合作深化
重庆是中国西南重要的工业与科技创新中心，常住人口超过 3200 万，市场活力充沛。近年重庆与墨西哥双边往来持续深化，经贸与人文学术合作成果丰硕。2025 年，重庆与墨西哥贸易额超过 192 亿元人民币，墨西哥已成为重庆在拉美地区的主要贸易伙伴。
Chongqing is a key industrial, technological and innovation hub in southwest China, home to more than 32 million residents with vibrant market potential. Bilateral engagement between Chongqing and Mexico has deepened in recent years, yielding fruitful outcomes in trade, culture and academic exchange. In 2025, trade volume between Chongqing and Mexico exceeded 19.2 billion yuan, establishing Mexico as one of Chongqing's major trade partners in Latin America.
官方致辞展望
贝拉斯科外长在致辞中表示，驻重庆领事馆将作为一座贴近民众的开放窗口，维护墨西哥在华利益，服务中国西南地区的墨西哥侨民，深化与地方各界的联结，推动中墨双边友好关系不断发展。
In his remarks, Secretary Velasco noted that the Chongqing consulate will function as a people‑centred, open gateway to safeguard Mexican interests, serve Mexican nationals in southwest China, strengthen local‑level ties and advance the friendly bilateral relationship.
释放合作潜力
领事馆的设立，进一步完善了墨西哥在华领事布局，也为西南地区企业、商贸从业者与各类机构提供了更便利的沟通渠道，释放双方在贸易、科创、教育、农业、绿色发展等领域的合作潜力。
The opening further expands Mexico's consular presence in China, and provides more convenient channel for engagement with businesses professionals and institutions in southwest China, unlocking cooperative potential in trade, science‑technology innovation, education, agriculture, green development and other fields.
