DHL Global Forwarding to establish Changi Airport healthcare logistics facility
DHL Global Forwarding will establish a dedicated healthcare logistics facility at Singapore Changi Airport to strengthen its capabilities for handling high-value, time-sensitive and temperature-controlled healthcare and life sciences cargo.
The temperature-controlled DHL Singapore Coldchain Hub with direct airside access will be located at air logistics facility Changi Nexus One, which has 8,000 sqm of warehousing space and direct apron connectivity and is situated in the Changi Airfreight Centre.
Targeted for completion by end-2027, the DHL Singapore Coldchain Hub will be a 3,047 sq m facility designed in accordance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards.
It will support healthcare shipments requiring controlled temperatures of 2°C-8°C and 15°C-25°C, and feature specialised cold-chain infrastructure including GDP-qualified cold rooms and real-time temperature monitoring capabilities.
Together with dedicated temperature-controlled transfer solutions from aircraft to the DHL facility, and onward to its customers’ warehouses, these capabilities will help safeguard product integrity and provide a seamless, unbroken cold chain for healthcare and life sciences shipments moving through Singapore and across the Asia-Pacific region, said DHL.
The facility augments Changi Airport’s existing facilities, which provide a temperature-controlled environment across the airport ecosystem, currently supported by airside thermal protection solutions such as cool dollies and more than 9,000 sq m of airside-fronting temperature-controlled handling capacity of over 375,000 tonnes per annum.

Air cargo market conditions becoming increasingly localised
Air cargo market conditions are becoming increasingly localised as demand surges from certain origins and verticals while it eases from others, according to freight forwarder CH Robinson.
However, the current dynamic is more concentrated around a “relatively narrow set of products, manufacturers, and export markets”.
CH Robinson explained that equipment tied to next-generation AI server platforms is fuelling airfreight demand from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam into the US.
The surging AI demand is also putting pressure on capacity for other types of goods moving from, or through, these locations.
However, other markets, such as Asia-Europe, are seeing demand levels ease.
“In both Shanghai and Hong Kong, carriers continue to compete for available volumes [to Europe] as demand eases and capacity comfortably meets current needs. Rates have continued to soften, and neither market is showing significant peak-season pressure.
Explaining why the localisation of airfreight trends matters to shippers, the forwarder explained that the overall picture may not reflect conditions at individual airports or on certain origins.
“As demand becomes more concentrated, origin-level conditions may matter more than regional averages when planning airfreight.
The forwarder said that to combat the market conditions, shippers should separate time-sensitive shipments from freight with more flexible delivery requirements; watch a market’s cargo mix, not just capacity; take advantage of competitive Asia-Europe rates; plan earlier for constrained lanes; and build flexibility into routing decisions where possible.
