According to data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, Mexico's exports hit a record $81.42 billion in July 2026, a year-over-year increase of 43.7%, marking the strongest annual growth since June 2021. Driven by a triple-digit surge in electrical and electronic equipment exports, the country recorded a monthly trade deficit of $847.5 million in July, compared with a trade surplus of $4.06 billion in June 2026.

Manufacturing remained the core engine of Mexico's foreign trade, generating $76.31 billion in exports in July 2026, up 45.7% year-over-year. Non-automotive manufacturing sectors grew by 64.9%, with electrical and electronic equipment exports soaring 134%. Mining, metallurgy, specialized machinery and plastic products also achieved steady growth. The automotive industry posted modest growth of 2.4%, with declining shipments to non-US markets.

Agricultural exports decline while oil exports face downward pressure

In July 2026, almost all major export categories achieved year-over-year growth except agriculture and fisheries, which fell 8.6% to $1.32 billion. Key agricultural products such as cattle, coffee beans and tomatoes saw sharp declines, while fresh vegetables and peppers maintained growth. Mexico's oil exports reached $1.99 billion in July with falling daily output and month-on-month crude prices.

Mexico's total imports jumped 45.0% year-over-year to a record $82.27 billion in July 2026. The growth was mainly driven by industrial production demand. Imports of manufacturing intermediate goods and components rose 56.3%, accounting for over 80% of total monthly imports, reflecting Mexico's reliance on imported parts for export manufacturing.

Despite the monthly trade deficit in July, Mexico maintained a robust trade surplus of $9.26 billion from January to July 2026, nearly eight times the figure of the same period in 2025. Total exports reached $471.39 billion and total imports reached $462.13 billion, both maintaining high double-digit growth and demonstrating strong economic resilience.
