This is another Sail Global training camp in August.

This time, all the trainees of the ASA 101 camp are Germans who worked in Shanghai ,Wuxi and Suzhou. None of them has experience of sailing. When they found out that Sailing Global offers training programs in German and English language they decided to sign up.
So let’s have a look who have taken part in this session.
Hans is working in financial department as a CFO. He was thinking already long time to do a sailing course but didnt find the right location for it. Language barriere was also a big topic. By chance he found our Sail Global company providing German and English course, especially for expats work and live in China.
Alexandra, GM of an international company. She speaks Chinese fluently with abundant facial expressions and lots of humor. She told us she had got use to drink hot water after six years living in China. Within one hour talk to Christian, the founder and also instructor of Sail Global, she decided to take a
first sailing course and registered as an annual member of Sail Global international community.

Walter is a teacher of a German school, a knowledgeable gentleman and always well prepared to answer any questions.

As all of them are occupied during weekdays, Sail Global has customized the course inline with their available time. The instructor Chris had explained those theoretical contents in a online lesson few days before after their working hours.
And on the weekend, Chris would take them aboard to do practices.

//CATAMARAN//

Rather directly go to sailing, Chris firstly showed them around on the 54 feet Catamaran to introduce different functional zones and the performance of it. It is to arouse their interests in sailing and set the goal for them. One day they will steer such a catamaran to take sailing vacation on the sea. It’s good to have a general idea about it in the first place.
P.S. It’s the bonus given by Chris, which isn’t included in the ASA101 program.
11:00
Officially started to practice.
Go aboard of J80 sailboat and try to get familiar with parts.
In the afternoon

The practices going on.

The city of Suzhou where the Sail Global base locates is also a perfect destination for trip, which is known for its classical Chinese gardens and tasty local cuisines. Hans’s wife also came with him and having fun around the city when Hans was studying sailing on the Taihu Lake. She took a picture of Hans and his crew from the hotel that is just beside the Lake.

After a whole day’s practicing, it was 19:30. Alexandra, one of the students, prepared moon cakes and breads to fill their empty stomach while Chris review the theoretical part. Everyone agreed to study overtime. Good for the whole success.
30th of August
The practices went on
It 's 32 degrees Celsius out there, which was obviously more hotter than yesterday. That could be a fine day for those fresh sailors.

What they need to do was to get familiar with those fundamental sailing terms and to figure out what to do when terms are applied to practices. including:
- Docking and fix the boat on the pier
- Sail different courses: Upwind, Downwind, Butterfly
- Practice "Crew overboard"
- Tacking and Jibing
- At the end sail down and cover on
- Leave the boat in right condition

(Please leave me alone. Which direction exactly was the wind coming from? )
Though Alexandra was made crazy by the direction of sailing and direction of wind, she has done a good job.

Handsome Hans was managing strings and said “I like it”.

Alexandra had worried about boat sickness before going aboard. Luckily no such symptoms occurred.

Two-day practice was over at the sunset of Sunday. Trainees have made friends with each other during past days. And they expressed their compliments on the tutoring and services of Sail Global. Practices make perfect. There are ASA 103 and 104 courses awaiting them. Hope to see you people at Sail Global club and get reunion with your teammates.

The review of Captain Chris

As this is a basic course, which means not any sailing skills existing it is very clear that after 2-3 days you cannot be a perfect sailor.
HOWEVER, we train the basics which the students can use for further training and practice to get better.
So everybody who want to continue with sailing need to take more time for practicing to get used to boat and wind behavior. After few practice hours we recommend to join next course ASA103 for next level of sailing skills.

If you intend to study basic, intermediate and advanced sailing, there are training camps for all levels organized by Sail Global. Don't be hesitat to contact us.
