Don’t miss the chance to be a sailor in coming Golden Week

Wind is getting stronger on Taihu Lake as autumn is approaching. It is the best time for sailing of the year. More wind, more conditions. A fresh sailor has to face up to all the challenges until the boat is totally under his/her control. The burning heat waves of summer have gone. Are you going to stay at home for all eight days long in the holiday? Or stepping into the crowed in the tourist attractions?  Why not take three-day sailing courses at Sail Global Suzhou base, fun and secure outdoor activity to avoid large scale of gathering.

For whom?

The sailing courses are for both teenagers and adults. All levels of experience are welcome. Sailing is a sport you can do recreational as well competitive. If you intend to bring your kids, please discuss with us in advance. And the courses will be in English (or German ) according to trainees’ demands.

When?

Session one  2nd -4th ,Oct.  ASA101

Session two  5th -8th ,Oct.  ASA101+103

Session three: 9th -11th , Oct.  ASA101

To ensure the quality of learning, each session only 8 spots are available. And the schedule time for each day’s courses is 9:00am - 6:00pm. It is flexible to add extra hours of learning if trainees require.

Where?

Sailing base: Suzhou Bay（Dongtaihu Ecological Garden）

Transportation:  The destination is the South Gate of Dongtaihu Ecological Garden . If you take the high-speed train, transfer subway line 4 to Gujiadang Station and then take a taxi to go there.

Hotel：It is surrounded by lots of fine hotels at all range of prices. We can also recommend if you need help.

Food：Local cuisine is undoubtedly worth to try. Large number of popular restaurants around for you to select, any preference or anything you are allergic to, please inform us in advance.

How it works?

There will be indoor lectures on the first day to introduce theoretical contents. The instructor will take trainee to the J80 boat and explain rigging. After theoretical part the instructor will bring you on the boat so that everyone can feel how the sailing is. 

The next day is about practical courses, every one will go aboard by teams and go through all the works of sailing in rotation. The instructor will give his assistance and advices. If there is more than one team, a race will be held to raise the efficiency of learning. 

On the third day, more training will go on. And the trainees will take both paper and practical test. If passed, the instructor will issue score proof which the trainee can take it to apply for a ASA certificate of corresponding level.

Beside the training, there will be fun activities like catamaran introduction, group dining, barbecue on the boat planned for the trainees.

ASA?

American Sailing Association (ASA for short), introduced certifications to the United States 37 years ago. Today, with 350+ sailing schools and 536,000 ASA-certified sailors, ASA represents the largest trusted network of sailing schools. There are different levels of its certificates:

ASA101：Basic Keel Boat;

ASA103：Basic Coastal Cruising;

ASA104：Bareboat Cruising (Intermediate Coastal Cruising) ;

ASA105：Coastal Navigation.

ASA101

Basic Keelboat Sailing

Able to skipper a sloop-rigged keelboat of approximately 20 to 27 feet in length by day in light to moderate winds (up to 15 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoy-age, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards. Auxiliary power operation is not required.

ASA103

Basic Coastal Cruising

Able to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered keelboat of approximately 25 to 35 feet length by day in moderate winds(up to 20 knots) and sea conditions.Knowledge of cruising sailboat terminology basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation,docking procedures，intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation，anchoring, weather interpretation, safety and seamanship.

The instructor

The instructor Chris, Austrian, is a navigation expert. Before he devoted into sailing, he was working as a Managing Director for an international company in Shanghai. He started with sailing more than 35 years ago and since that time sailing is his passion. He also has rich experience (+20 years), of global sailing cruising across Mediterranean Sea, Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean and Asia.

Equipments

Make sure to take these personal stuff：

Sunglasses, hat, oversleeves, trousers and sun cream, especially for sailing in a sunny day. These stuff will protect you from sunburn. Even prepare a scarf to cover your neck and face if you like.

Gloves are to protect your hand as you will be always pulling the rigging

Sportswear and sneakers are suitable for sailing but leather shoes are unacceptable to be on the boat. Remember to prepare extra clothes for changing.
