Pakistan's transition to environmentally sustainable urban transport gained fresh momentum on Wednesday as Punjab launched a fleet of China-manufactured electric buses in Gujrat, underscoring the growing role of Chinese technology in the province's green mobility push.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi, MPA Abdullah Yousaf, and other senior officials. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Green Electric Bus Service via video link, marking the arrival of modern, clean-energy public transport under the provincial government's expanding mass transit programme.

The first phase deploys 11 China-made buses on the Gujrat–Mangowal and Gujrat–Daulat Nagar routes, with authorities planning to expand the fleet to 28 by September and add new routes to improve district-wide connectivity.

The buses feature wheelchair ramps for elderly and disabled passengers, enhancing inclusivity, while a flat fare of Rs20 ensures affordability. The deployment also aligns with broader Pakistan–China cooperation in clean technologies and sustainable urban development, with Chinese manufacturers playing a key role in the country's transport modernisation efforts.

Beyond cutting pollution, the electric fleet is expected to lower long-term operational costs, reduce fossil fuel imports, and support climate resilience. Officials said that fleet expansion would improve commuting for thousands and encourage wider adoption of clean transit across Punjab.

巴基斯坦计划、发展与特别倡议部部长阿赫桑·伊克巴尔教授指出，高效、一体化且数字化驱动的物流体系，是实现“腾飞巴基斯坦”愿景中出口导向型增长、提升工业竞争力及区域互联互通目标的关键基石。

上周二，阿赫桑·伊克巴尔主持召开巴基斯坦国家物流委员会第 68 次会议。作为统筹本国物流行业的最高机构，委员会成员及国家物流公司（NLC）高层参会，听取了关于企业运营、财务状况及区域互联互通项目进展的汇报。

会议聚焦巴基斯坦与中国及周边经济体日益深化的物流合作。据悉，NLC 已在土库曼斯坦塞尔哈塔巴特、乌兹别克斯坦铁尔梅兹及中国喀什设立过境前置贸易枢纽，构建起互联互通物流网络，旨在丰富巴基斯坦商品出口通道，拓宽进入中亚与中国市场的路径。

官员表示，上述枢纽将提升货物运输效率、疏通物流堵点，助力巴基斯坦深度融入区域供应链，契合中巴经济走廊长期发展目标，推动南亚、中亚与中国西部的经济融合。

阿赫桑·伊克巴尔强调中巴贸易的战略价值，指示 NLC 优先扩建吉尔吉特 - 巴尔蒂斯坦地区的索斯特陆港。他称该港口是扩大双边贸易、增强区域商贸联通的关键门户。

索斯特陆港位于喀喇昆仑公路和红其拉甫口岸附近，是巴基斯坦对华最重要的陆路通商口岸。扩建工程预计将提升货物吞吐能力、加快通关效率，支撑中巴经济走廊二期不断增长的贸易规模。二期项目更聚焦产业合作、贸易便利化与经济发展。

为推动物流业升级，阿赫桑·伊克巴尔要求 NLC 筹建一所达到国际标准的现代化驾驶培训学院，培养适配全球物流货运行业的高素质专业人才。

鉴于中巴跨境贸易规模持续扩大，部长进一步要求学员在学习驾驶技能与物流专业知识的同时增设外语课程，确保能与境外合作伙伴顺畅沟通，更好地服务中巴经济走廊及其他区域贸易通道。

Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening logistics connectivity with China by directing the expansion of the strategically important Sost Dry Port and strengthening transport infrastructure linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as part of broader efforts to transform the country into a regional trade and transit hub.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal said an efficient, integrated and technology-driven logistics ecosystem would be indispensable for achieving the export-led growth, industrial competitiveness and regional connectivity goals envisioned under the government's URAAN Pakistan initiative.

The minister made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon while chairing the 68th meeting of the National Logistics Board (NLB), the apex body responsible for overseeing Pakistan's logistics sector. The meeting was attended by members of the board, including senior officials of the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), who briefed participants on the organisation's operational, administrative and financial performance, as well as its ongoing regional connectivity initiatives.

A major focus of the meeting was Pakistan's growing logistics cooperation with China and neighbouring regional economies. The board was informed that NLC had established Forward Transit Trade Hubs at Serhatabat in Turkmenistan, Termez in Uzbekistan and Kashgar in China, creating an interconnected logistics network designed to diversify export routes for Pakistani goods while enhancing access to Central Asian and Chinese markets.

Officials said the transit hubs would facilitate smoother cargo movement, reduce logistical bottlenecks and improve Pakistan's participation in regional supply chains, complementing the long-term objectives of CPEC and strengthening economic integration across South Asia, Central Asia and western China.

Highlighting the strategic significance of Pakistan-China trade, Ahsan Iqbal directed the National Logistics Corporation to prioritise the expansion of the Sost Dry Port in Gilgit-Baltistan, describing it as a critical gateway for increasing bilateral trade with China and enhancing regional commercial connectivity.

Situated along the Karakoram Highway near the Khunjerab Pass, the Sost Dry Port serves as Pakistan's principal land trade terminal with China. Its expansion is expected to improve cargo handling capacity, facilitate faster customs clearance and support growing trade volumes under the second phase of CPEC, which places greater emphasis on industrial cooperation, trade facilitation and economic development.

The minister said strengthening the Sost Dry Port would reinforce Pakistan's position within the Belt and Road Initiative's regional transport architecture while creating greater opportunities for Pakistani exporters to access western China's rapidly expanding consumer and industrial markets.

To further support the country's logistics transformation, Ahsan Iqbal instructed NLC to establish a state-of-the-art driving academy meeting international standards to develop a highly skilled workforce capable of serving global logistics and freight transport industries.

Recognising the expanding role of cross-border trade with China, the minister also directed that trainees receive foreign language education alongside professional driving and logistics training to enable effective communication with international clients and facilitate operations under CPEC and other regional trade corridors.

巴基斯坦副总理兼外交部长穆罕默德·伊沙克·达、计划、发展与特别倡议部部长阿赫桑·伊克巴尔、总理顾问赛义德·陶吉尔·沙阿博士以及外交秘书阿姆娜·巴卢奇出席了本次会见。

总理重申了中巴全天候战略合作伙伴关系，并愉快回顾了今年 5 月的访华经历。他表示，双方将持续密切协作，落实两国领导人达成的重要共识与协议，造福两国人民。

会谈还探讨了地区形势，涵盖中东、阿富汗及南亚局势的发展。

中国大使感谢总理拨冗会见。姜再冬表示，中国视巴基斯坦为“铁杆兄弟”，将始终全力支持巴基斯坦维护主权与领土完整，并助力其经济社会发展。

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sen. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch were also present.

The Prime Minister conveyed his warm regards and greetings to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He reaffirmed the Pakistan-China All Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, while fondly recalling his visit to China in May this year. He stated that both sides would continue working closely to implement the important decisions and agreements between the leadership of the two countries, for the mutual benefit of their peoples.

The regional situation, including developments in the Middle East, Afghanistan and South Asia, were also discussed during the meeting.

The Chinese Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister for receiving him and said that China regarded Pakistan as an iron brother and would always lend its full support in ensuring Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity while also strengthening its socio-economic development.
