这位咨询公司掌门人接受彭博电视采访时称，他已告知全体员工，市场需求即将迎来大幅增长，核心驱动力包括人工智能变革浪潮、地缘政治动荡以及新能源转型进程。
他表示：“或许是我想法过于乐观，但展望未来数年，我们行业有望迎来一段黄金发展期。未来五年，企业面临的各类复杂问题只会越来越多。”
AI浪潮正深刻改变整个咨询行业格局。上月，埃森哲股价跌至近十年低位，投资者担忧新技术会替代部分传统专业服务岗位。
Bob Sternfels透露，麦肯锡已借助人工智能优化后台支持团队人员结构，同时扩招一线咨询师，整体员工总量将保持增长。
他说：“我们的整体员工数量将会稳步回升。目前每位咨询师平均配备3个AI智能助手，以此提升工作效能。公司年轻员工之间甚至流传一句玩笑话：如果你的AI助手没通宵运转，那就是你的失职。”
在麦肯锡任职超过三十年的Bob Sternfels将于明年卸任高管职位。他职业生涯早期曾收到绩效差评，被评价为 “错招的员工”，当时他甚至以为自己撑不过两年。他回忆道：“我当时心里五味杂陈，但这件事也成了鞭策我前进的动力。”
McKinsey & Co. is on the edge of a possible “golden age” as companies seek help with issues such as artificial intelligence, according to Global Managing Partner Bob Sternfels.
Speaking to Bloomberg TV, the head of the consulting firm said he’d told staff to expect a surge in demand, with drivers including the “AI moment,” geopolitical instability and the transition to new energy sources.
“Maybe I’m nuts, but when I think about the rest of this decade, I think there’s a potential that this is a golden age for us,” he said. “We see over the next five years the complexity of those problems going up, not going down.”
The consulting industry is being shaken up by AI. Last month, shares in Accenture Plc slumped to their lowest in about a decade on investor concerns that emerging technology would render some professional services redundant.
McKinsey has cut staff from its support teams on the back of the AI wave but is hiring more consultants, and is set to grow headcount overall, Sternfels said.
“You will see our workforce now start to rise,” he said, adding that consultants also have an average of three AI agents each to boost their impact. Sternfels said a joke among the firm’s junior ranks was “if your agents don’t work all night, you will.”
Sternfels, who has worked at McKinsey for more than three decades, is stepping down from his leadership role next year. Early in his career, he didn’t think he would last more than two years, after his first performance review said he was a “hiring mistake.”
“I’m like, OK, great,” he said. “But it was motivating. Let’s just put it that way.”
