Hello, I'm Yuan Qihui, a clerk in the marketing department of the Russian office of the Overseas Engineering Division of MCC22. 2026 is my second year in Moscow. Today, I would like to take you into our office and see how more than a dozen Chinese youths in the office have taken root in Russia and spent their youth on the Belt and Road Initiative in the ancient and vibrant city of Moscow.

The address of our office is Профсоюзная улица, 65к1, which is called Union Avenue in Chinese. This street is not considered the city center of Moscow, but the transportation is very convenient, and it only takes a few minutes to walk to the subway station. Every morning, I walk through the slightly chilly streets of Moscow, push open the office door, and a day's work begins.

The office is not big, but it has all the necessary facilities. On the wall hang a map of Russia and a project distribution map of China Twenty-second Metallurgical Group, and the whiteboard is densely filled with project progress and to-do items. This is our base camp and the most familiar place for us in Moscow - when working overtime late at night, outside the window are the lights of Moscow, and inside the window are us still revising the bidding documents in front of the computer screens.

Although we are not many people, the business scope we cover is not small - from Moscow to St. Petersburg, from Tatarstan to the Far East, our footprints are all over Russia. The projects being tracked by the office involve multiple fields such as mining, metallurgy, chemical industry, infrastructure, and new energy. Behind each project is our daily running around and efforts.

Many people think that working abroad is glamorous, but in fact, our daily routine is more about trivialities and being meticulous.

Bidding is one of my core jobs. Every time I get the bidding documents, the first thing is to dismantle the owner's needs word for word, and sort out the technical requirements and business conditions. Then, linkage with the domestic technical team and quotation team online to accurately translate and convey the key information of the Russian bidding documents, and then integrate the domestic feedback into standardized bidding documents. Sometimes a bidding documents is hundreds of pages, and it takes an entire day to proofread the format alone. The most nervous thing is that a few days before the bid cut-off, the lights in the office are always on until late at night. Everyone stares at the screen, occasionally exchanges a few words, and then continues to bury themselves in work. When the bidding documents was successfully submitted, a large rock was removed from the entire figure.

Contract compliance review is also part of my daily routine. The contract clauses for international engineering projects are far more complex than those in China—such as which arbitration institution to choose for dispute resolution clauses, which country's laws to apply, how to set payment terms, how to define force majeure... Each clause may become a potential risk point in the future. I spent a lot of time studying Russian contract law regulations, comparing the advantages and disadvantages of different clauses, and communicating repeatedly with the legal team to ensure that every contract can withstand scrutiny. When I first started dealing with these, just understanding those legal terms was a headache, but gradually, I learned to examine each clause from the perspective of risk control. This shift in thinking is one of my greatest gains during my on-site work.

Before each client visit or industry event participation, it is necessary to prepare materials such as company introduction PPT, project performance manuals, and special brochures. How to accurately present the technical strength and overseas performance of MCC22 to the owners in Russian, how to layout professionally and beautifully, and how to highlight our differentiated advantages—I repeatedly polished these details. Once, in order to rush to complete a Russian version of the company brochure, my colleagues and I meticulously checked every word with translation software and Russian dictionaries, and the final finished product was well received by the owners. At that moment, I felt that all the overtime work was worthwhile.

"多面手"的生存法则

In the office, we often say: Russia is large, but our market is even larger.

In accordance with the strategic layout of the office, we have locked in three core development regions: the European Region, the Central Region, and the Far Eastern Region, and have been deeply engaged in core product lines such as mining, metallurgy, chemical engineering, and non-ferrous metals.

For these projects, we have visited countless clients: including large local Russian enterprises and Chinese-funded companies investing in Russia. We have participated in multiple business meetings and repeatedly communicated technical solutions and business terms with the owners. Business trips are a common occurrence: St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhnekamsk... We set off by train or plane, carrying laptops and materials. Sometimes we have to travel to two or three cities in a week, attending meetings during the day and traveling at night; revising bidding documents on the train is also a common thing.Every business trip, besides change of clothes, the most items in the suitcase are various promotional materials and bidding documents. Departing from Union Avenue, taking the Moscow subway or train to visit clients or conduct on-site surveys—this is the daily routine of us young people.

In overseas offices, everyone is a "generalist" and needs to be a "generalist". Today I am working on the bidding documents, and tomorrow I will participate in the contract negotiation; In the morning, I am still docking the technical scheme with the design institute, and in the afternoon, I will prepare the report materials to the owner. During this time, I have cooperated with my brother units to do qualification standards, participated in business meetings with Russian senior executives, and built digital tools for customer communication by combining artificial intelligence and large model technology. As a young person, it is a great feeling to be able to empower the team with my own professional knowledge.

Spring comes late in Moscow, with snow still falling in April; summer is short but beautiful, and the white nights make people reluctant to sleep. After work, I occasionally walk along Union Avenue, watching the hustle and bustle of the city, and thinking of my family and friends back in China.

To be honest, life abroad is not always glamorous. The embarrassment when language is a barrier, the loneliness when working overtime late at night, the pressure when dealing with complex contracts—these are all real daily experiences. But whenever I see the bidding documents I participated in compiling successfully submitted, the contract clauses I drafted recognized by both parties, and the promotional materials I made well-received by clients, that feeling of "I am doing something meaningful" is enough to dispel all fatigue.

The seniors in the office have given me a lot of help, taking us to visit clients, negotiate projects, and inspect sites, making me grow from a "newcomer" who couldn't even figure out how to take the subway when I first arrived in Moscow to a key business backbone who can independently handle bidding documents and contract clauses. I am still learning Russian and occasionally get stuck when facing in-depth business communications; I also need to continuously supplement cross-disciplinary knowledge. But on the overseas frontline, only by continuous learning can we stand firm. We young people encourage each other and grow together in Moscow, turning the small office at 65к1 Union Avenue into our "home" in Russia.
