Success Case | One Month Left After Layoff — We Helped Him Stay and Start His Business

Client Background

A U.S. client was unexpectedly laid off by his previous employer in China. His original work visa was canceled on April 3, leaving him with only a short-term stay permit and about one month to secure a new legal status.

The client planned to transfer his visa to his own trading business in China, but the timeline was extremely tight.

Key Challenge

The biggest issue was time.

To apply for a stay permit in Hangzhou, the client had to submit his passport for around 15 days. This could have taken away the time needed for company setup, Foreign Experts Bureau registration, and work visa preparation.

Another challenge was document preparation. A new work visa application usually requires a police clearance certificate, which could take weeks if requested from overseas.

How AnyHelper Helped

AnyHelper first created a bridge visa strategy. After the client secured a marriage certificate appointment, we guided him to apply for a family reunion visa first. This gave the case extra time and helped avoid any gap in legal stay.

We also prepared an explanation letter for the authorities, clarifying that the client had just left his previous job and had not left China since then. The bureau accepted the explanation and waived the need for a new overseas police clearance certificate, saving valuable time.

At the same time, we reviewed and refined the client’s business plan to meet the review requirements for his own trading company and reduce the risk of back-and-forth revisions.

Result

On June 26, the client successfully obtained his work-based residence permit.

Despite the sudden layoff and tight timeline, he was able to stay in China legally and move forward with his own trading business in full compliance.
