Key Asia–Europe routes saw significant gains:
🚢 Shanghai–Rotterdam: +15% to $4,342/FEU
🚢 Shanghai–Genoa: +12% to $5,756/FEU
The surge is being driven by strong peak-season demand and accelerated shipments ahead of the upcoming bunker fuel adjustment on 1 July. Carriers have already introduced surcharges, with additional peak season charges and higher FAK rates expected from July.
While improved geopolitical sentiment has eased concerns over potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, uncertainty remains. Drewry expects freight rates to continue rising in the coming weeks.
