Beijing Polytechnic was founded in 1958. It is a Beijing City-Owned higher vocational college, and one the first batch of vocational colleges set up independently in China. It ranks one of the top 100 Model Vocational Colleges in China as well. The college is located by Liangshuihe River, Yizhuang, B.D.A.(Beijing Economic-technological Development Area), covering an area of 807 mu. Equipped with excellent schooling conditions and well-established infrastructure, it created an outstanding studying and living environment for the students.

The college aims to provide service and takes the employment-oriented vocational education policy. It has a foothold in the Development Area, caters to the capital economy, integrates into the Jing- Jin-Ji Economic Area, goes out of Bohai Economy Circle, establishes an interactive and integrative relationship with regional economy development, and achieves a fusing development so as to cultivate the high-skilled talents, satisfying the demands of the large-scale international enterprises and modern high-class industry clusters.

Now, there are 9,423 full-time students, and 992 staff members including 564 teaching faculties. There is also 1 National-Grade teaching group, 7 Municipal Excellent Teaching Teams, Academic Innovation and Professional Innovative Teams; 5 National Outstanding Teachers, 21 Municipal Outstanding Teachers, 1 Innovation Talent of College in Beijing, 11 Beijing Famous Teachers, 2 Famous Teachers in Beijing Vocational Education. Beijing Polytechnic has eight subordinate colleges, namely are Mechanical Engineering College, Automation Engineering College, Automotive Engineering College, Telecommunications Engineering College, Bio-engineering College, Art & Design College, and Economics and Management College and Fundamental Education College. There are 52 higher vocational programmes within 7 majors of Machinery and Digital Control, Automotive and Transportation, Automatic Control and Electric Engineering, Electronics and Information, Food and Biotechnology, Art and Design, and Economic Management, which covered all the pillar industries of Beijing. Since its foundation, it has cultivated over 100,000 high-skilled talents for Beijing modern manufacturing industry, high and new technology industry and modern service industry.

Beijing Polytechnic has repeatedly been awarded the Advanced Unit in Beijing Vocational Education. In 2005, it was awarded Advanced Unit in National Vocational Education. In 2010, it built itself into a National Exemplary Vocational College and in the same year was approve by Ministry of Education as a construction unit of the national higher vocational education comprehensive reform experimental region. Over the past years, Beijing Polytechnic has acquired 7 First Prizes of Beijing Education and Teaching Achievements,6 Second Prizes of Beijing Education and Teaching Achievements. In 2014, it was awarded as the Second Prize in the National Education and Teaching Achievement.

Beijing Polytechnic also pays high attention to technology innovation. Over the past 5 years, teachers have published 685 dissertations in core journal and EI，SCI, ISTP, 334 textbooks and works, 76 intentions and practical new patents, 9 software copyrights. It has been in charge of or taken part in 55 scientific research projects, including the national natural sciences fund projects, national technology planning project, Beijing natural sciences fund program and other ministry-level and Beijing Municipal Education Commission projects. In addition, it has also shouldered 87 horizontal research projects from enterprises and society.
