Journey to China
On July 14th, students from the University of Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) embarked on their exciting new journey in China! The short-term program we offer, provides students the opportunity to gain an insightful introductory experience into the amazing culture of China. 12 Students from UMT were invited to Shenyang University, a high-quality university in the northern area of China. The duration of the Malaysian study groups trip was one week but was filled with fun and joyous memories.
Shenyang University
Shenyang University has arranged many study tour programs in the past and each time, has given a safe and comfortable experience. Many students from all over the world has visited Shenyang University before such as, Japan, South Korea, Italy, France, Russia and more.
Students stay in the dorms of Shenyang University, where they will be living for the duration of their trip. The campus is stunning and covers a massive area, including the library which holds more than 1.6 million books.
Program Insight
The Short-term Cultural Exchange program offers a variety of activities which involves traditional Chinese culture and introductory Mandarin language classes, alongside extremely delicious Chinese meals.
Traditional Chinese Instruments
The program focuses on exploring traditional Chinese forms of art. With China's vast and remarkable history, comes many forms of art. Students participated in learning to play different kinds of traditional instruments such as the Chinese violin or "Erhu", the Chinese flute and the Chinese Zither or "Ghuzheng."
More Activities
Other great activities that the students participated in included pottery, cooking, visiting museums, calligraphy and many more.
Meeting Mrs. Wang Mei
A very enriching part of the excursion was meeting Mrs. Wang Mei, Shenyang University's Dean of International Education Exchange Studies. Her extensive knowledge and passion for traditional Chinese culture and customs, inspired the curious study group with her contagious enthusiasm. Mrs. Wang Mei wore a beautiful Chinese dress, the "Qipao", and enlightened the students about the Chinese Circular Fan, an artistic symbol which holds profound cultural significance in China. The students also designed and painted their own fans.
Short but Sweet
While being immersed in the new environment, the UMT study group spent quality time with each other, participating in many activities together, growing stronger friendships, as well as creating new friendships with the kind and welcoming locals of Shenyang.
