[Travel Notice] Hongqiao Airport Shortens Check-In Cutoff Times — 15-Minute Option Available for Some Travelers
Starting June 29, passengers taking domestic flights from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport will generally have until 30 minutes before departure to complete check-in and baggage drop-off, according to Shanghai Airport Group.
The cutoff time is the final deadline for passengers to complete check-in and baggage drop-off. Previously, the 30-minute cutoff mainly applied to domestic passengers without checked luggage. The latest update extends it to passengers with checked luggage as well.
For domestic flights at Hongqiao Airport, the new cutoff times are:
Spring Airlines: check-in and baggage drop-off close 25 minutes before departure, whether passengers have checked luggage or not.
All other domestic airlines: check-in and baggage drop-off close 30 minutes before departure, whether passengers have checked luggage or not.
For international, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan flights, cutoff times remain different:
Cathay Pacific, Air Macau, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and Shanghai Airlines: check-in generally closes 40 minutes before departure.
Other airlines: check-in generally closes 45 minutes before departure.
(Actual cutoff times are subject to the airline’s official announcement.)

Some airlines are going even further. China Eastern Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, and China United Airlines recently launched a service allowing passengers without checked luggage to complete check-in, security check, and boarding as late as 15 minutes before departure, under certain conditions.
Cutoff times may be getting shorter, but passengers should still check their ticket, airline app, or official airport information, as the exact deadline can vary by airline, route, and luggage situation.
