When Kathrin von Rechenberg's fiber art is juxtaposed with He Jian's mixed-media works,

the common ground in their works is more appreciably manifested  in the light of each other’s works.their restraints in color usage, simplicity of form, texture of materials, and a preserved sense of the hand touch; both exude a reverence for nature, creating a quiet and introspective atmosphere around that is inviting and meditative.

At the first look, the works of both artists' are a cashual extension of the nature, but taking a closer look, one finds the inner tension and strength. This seems to be related to the way the artists interact with the materials they use. Both paper and silk, taken from nature, have a certain fragile yet moldable character, and carry a long culture heritage.

He Jian's anti-collage works start from concepts taking shape through random events occurring from time to time, creating contrasts and transformations between rationality and sensibility, planning and change, tension and relaxation, until a certain moment of equilibrium is reached. The layers of paper are stained, torn, reorganized and polished, as if in an archaeological process, where the long history of human civilization and natural evolution is explored and reproduced, pointing to a reflection on the dualistic relationship between man and nature.

With the material in hands, Kathrin von Rechenberg's fiber works emerged gradually from the natural properties of the material into specific forms and concepts. The artist is inspired by the traditional technique of "tea-silk" dyeing. And the Sunlight, which is so essential to the dyeing process, is listed as one of the ingredients along with the dyeing yam. It is the sunlight that gives her works their featured colors and radiances, as well as giving the soft silk a texture similar to that of paper, metal or leather. The collaboration between the artist and natural elements creates organic forms that are mysterious and timeless, and are an expression of the artist's philosophy of "the unity of man and nature".

Despite the different paths of creation, both artists' works arrive at a "meaningful form" that echoes each other, and their intertextual dialogues in the exhibition are like a quiet but profound fable: the only thing that remains unchanged is change itself. When we look at all the changes through the prism of art, we may encounter "eternity" unexpectedly.
