ExxonMobil said the ISAPT screens increase well reliability in sand-prone reservoirs. The system provides internal alternate flow paths called “shunt tubes” in the down-hole tool to effectively gravel pack producing horizons. The shunt tubes enable gravel packing even if sand prematurely blocks the well annulus.

The open-hole packer for the ISAPT system can extend gravel packing capabilities to more than 5,000 ft (1,524 m) while reducing installation time, ExxonMobil said. The packers are designed for use with ISAPT screen to isolate multiple water-bearing zones in a production well during gravel packing of sand-prone reservoirs.
