关注哥伦比亚的朋友们应该知道，哥大素来以文艺著称。Perseus也曾经迷恋哥大一段时间。后来接触了不少Columbia学姐。（是的，没有学长）慢慢了解到哥伦比亚core curriculum的核心精神。并且有幸当年在北京哥伦比亚全球中心有幸亲自听过一节来自著名历史教授的core，课程上教授选区的文章是亚里士多德的政治学。在教授的引导下，原本复杂难懂的文本经他讲解一下子变的清晰。他告诉我们，core是源于战争后，哥伦比亚大学经历反思，决定从人文经典中寻找未来的方向。
Perseus也曾经为Columbia会印沙龙做过summer session的discussion leader。其中在面试时，他问到学姐怎么才能上Columbia。学姐傲娇地告诉他，读完core书单，你肯定录取哥大。后来，Perseus意识到尽管有夸张的成分，但是可信度仍然是很高。
再后来，在哥大文书上，就更体现出了其对于阅读的重视。其中有好两个题目都是让列出书单地，其余两个是电子读物和电影等。所以，综合分析，学姐说的话也是有道理的。这些书都是经过几十年各种大牛教授筛选出来人文经典的，读一读也是非常有益处的。况且这些书拿在手上走出去也是尽显比格。试想，在繁华的街头，抱一本尤利西斯或是唐吉柯德的感觉吧。
