ESSAY OPTION 4.
While working at the Raytheon Company, Percy Spencer noticed that standing in front of a magnetron (used to generate microwave radio signals) caused a chocolate bar in his pocket to melt. He then placed a bowl of corn in front of the device, and soon it was popping all over the room. A couple years later, Raytheon was selling the first commercial microwave oven.
Write about a time you found something you weren’t looking for.
One day, I remembered a couple articles I had read in a biology book. When people think, their brains send out a kind of electronic wave, and create a magnetic field around them. As I learned in physics class, when magnetic fields come into contact with one another, they interfere with each other and become stronger, weaker, or change direction entirely. I wonder if the magnetic field created by the brain wave also worked in the same fashion. Maybe when our fields are influenced by those of others, we do not feel it, but our thoughts are unconsciously influenced by the contact. For example, when my friend’s weak field was influenced by the stronger fields of her peers, her field changed to accommodate for those new inputs. Therefore, even if she believes she chose to answer the questions randomly, she unconsciously selected the same answer as the people sitting next to her.
