A very new addition to the Shanghai bakery scene, Shanghai Bakery is a great new spot for an al fresco coffee and freshly baked pastry in a tucked away courtyard. The smell of sourdough and baking brioche lures you in from Yanping Lu and what awaits is just as sweet.
When we stopped in last week, the menu was still being developed but there are plans to serve breakfast, and of course, desserts and coffees all day. The pastries start from 18RMB for a blueberry slice, to 25RMB for the Raspberry Tart (pictured). You can also pick up a mini and wonderfully buttery brioche for 15RMB. To accompany your sweet treat, the coffee is cheap and cheerful from 18RMB for an espresso.
While the friendly owner is still decking out his tiny bakery and store-front, head here now and enjoy a chat, a pastry and a bit of fresh air in the pot-plant clad terrace. It’s a haven in Jingan and definitely one to check out in the warmer weather as it’s outdoor seating only.
The Shanghai Bakery is at 425 Yanping Lu, near Changping Lu
