Around Town
There are pages and pages on the internet that explain what seasonal affective disorder is but let us condense it into one sentence for you: winter is shit because it is awful. Did you see the weather on Wednesday? Soon there will be nothing to smile about forever more – well, until April anyway. But here to rescue us from the doom and gloom (and possible melodrama) is the Shanghai Improv Festival, because as the old adage goes, laughter is the best medicine, and there are sure to be lols aplenty when the event kicked off on Thursday.
Teams from all over Asia will be cracking their bestest jokes over a four-day period, including troupes from Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore and Suzhou – as well as Shanghai’s very own People’s Republic of Comedy and Zmack. Each show consists of three or more performers, and cost 100RMB each, with all proceeds going to benefit book collection charity, the Library Project.
The special guest will be Charna Halpern, from Chicago’s renowned IQ Theatre and co-author of Truth In Comedy, who will also be presenting a two-day workshop. See the full schedule below.
