After months of waiting with bated breath, we've finally got our answer. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is coming to Chinese cinemas – and even earlier than expected. Hurrah!

Disney has officially announced that its latest blockbuster will be out in cinemas across the country from January 9 – only a couple of weeks after it hits cinemas in, you know, the rest of the world (December 18).

The news comes as a great relief for Star Wars fans here, especially as the rumoured release date on IMDB was January 29, over a month after the film was due to be unveiled internationally. Over a month of avoiding spoilers? Impossible.

The Force Awakens, which comes ten years after the last Star Wars instalment, is the first Star Wars film under the ownership of The Walt Disney Company, and the first to be directed by JJ Abrams, the guy who managed to make Star Trek cool again. It's also the beginning of the latest Star Wars trilogy, which means at least two more films after this one.

Of course there have been more than a few hints that the film was coming to China. Stormtroopers taking over the Great Wall and the IAPM Mall for example:

And that's still with a few months to go until the release. Bring on January!

Check out a teaser for the new film below:
