Rangoli
Everybody’s talking about Tianzifang newcomer Rangoli’s dinner buffet bonanza and for good reason. For 80RMB you get unlimited access to freshly made curries, tandoori meats, salad and naan, as well as bottomless Tsingtao or soft drinks. While the curries could be hotter (both in temperature and spice), it’s a cracking deal.

Light & Salt Daily
Head to this beautiful Jingan space for their good value lunch set (157RMB for two courses such as the pictured beef steak), or go for dinner and get the succulent, fat scallops (77RMB) with edamame, bacon and a lemon vinaigrette followed by the hand-swirled cheese pasta (256RMB for two people) with wagyu beef and wild mushrooms.

Baoism
Having graduated from a regular pop up to their very own bricks and mortar space in the new Hubin Dao mall near Xintiandi, Baoism is dishing up tasty ‘modern’ baos with fillings that range from Korean Fried Chicken to okonomiyaki. Team with sides such as lotus root chips for a great light meal deal (45RMB for two baos and two sides).

Bites & Bottle O
This cosy little bar and restaurant on Danshui Lu doesn’t promise the world, but when it comes to their food offerings, it won’t disappoint.Try the roasted bone marrow (64RMB) or the fall-off-the-bone beef ribs served on a buttery bed of mashed potato (88RMB). If you’re in the mood for something lighter, opt for the house-cured salmon gravlax (78RMB) and the intensely-garlicky prawns (58RMB).

Charlie's
It’s hard to hate on burgers and hotdogs. Charlie’s, in the Changshu Lu spot that used to host Piro, isn’t reinventing the wheel, but the burgers are good quality (from 35RMB), the bacon plentiful (add it as a side to anything and everything for 5RMB) and the hot dogs area sloppy but satisfying mess (we especially love the NYC Dog with sauerkraut for 35RMB).
