All day breakfast at Al's Diner

Gracie's on Xinle Lu has morphed into Al's Diner, but fear not ice cream fans, the Gracie's gelato cabinet is still there if you're in the mood for a scoop or two (or more, we won't judge). The arrival of Al's Diner has brought with it all day breakfasts - hurrah! - featuring the likes of smoked salmon scramble (65RMB) and a breakfast sandwich (65RMB), as well as a host of pancake toppings (go blueberry lemon-ricotta, 60RMB) and French toast (60RMB).

Afternoon Tea at Hakkasan

Hakkasan has just launched an afternoon tea. Available on Saturday and Sunday from 2.30-5pm, the set gives you a selection of cakes, macarons and savoury bites, plus a pot of tea or coffee for two people (350RMB plus 10 percent service charge for two). Highlights include the signature macarons (black sesame on one of our visits), the chocolate raspberry delice with a lychee panna cotta centre, and the citrus tart. With unique presentation in a glam setting with Bund views, it's certainly an afternoon tea worth checking out.

Bagels from Little Catch

Not only does Little Catch sell fresh seafood at reasonable prices, but they're now also using said seafood to fill Spread the Bagel's excellent breads. Their crab cream cheese bagel (35RMB or 55RMB with salmon gravlax) is fresh, filling and packed with flavoursome seafood - available eat in or take away (if any of the half dozen seats are available).

Hairy crab at The Peninsula

Serving fresh Yangcheng Lake crabs across their three restaurants, The Peninsula is a great spot to sink your teeth into this local delicacy (especially as they're hosting a number of events for the upcoming World Congress on Art Deco). Gourmet crab menus are available in Sir Elly's (888RMB for five courses), Yi Long Court (crab dishes from 48RMB, or 368RMB whole crab with ginger tea) and The Lobby (588RMB for five courses). All prices are plus 15 percent service.
