We're just over a week into the year of the monkey, so it's perhaps little surprise what the latest pet craze is on Chinese social media.
Yes, its the world's smallest monkey, the Pygmy Marmoset. Obtaining one of these funsized finger accessories has two obstacles however - they are illegal in China and will also set you back up to 4,500USD (29,000RMB) a pop.
The amazonian minature primate ranges between 5.5 and 6.3 inches in size, and owners have been taking to Weibo to show off their new pets (and their thumbs).

One Weibo user Chen declared: "Snow skin leopards and red-crowned cranes have nothing on my New Year's gift."

According to Chinese law, the sale of exotic animals such as the Pygmy Marmoset is illegal. The primate is listed on the International Union for Conservation Nature's red list of endangered species.
