A big and slightly last minute music announcement: American recording artist and producer Chazwick Bradley Bundick, a.k.a. Toro y Moi, is coming to Shanghai next month as part of his Asia tour. He's supporting this summer's critically acclaimed album What For? as well as the surprise mixtape Samantha which he dropped online in August.
Each of the Toro y moi releases has seen a departure from the previous album's sound to something a little different. After going from lo-fi guitars to electronics, his latest full album is built on psychedelic vocals and catchy indie-pop guitar lines; a summer's daydream of a record. Quite a contrast to Samantha which he released via instagram in August - a Flying Lotus-esque hip-hop beat tape showcasing another side to Bundwick's talents.

Bundwick’s creativity was there from his first job at a fried chicken shop in Columbia, South Carolina. “I was always drawing on receipt slips, and letting the receipt paper flow out so I could draw on it between rushes”, he told Yours Truly.
He started out making music on his laptop, putting it on Myspace and some other blogs, and before long he had landed a record deal and heaps of critical acclaim. He’s cited The Beatles, Modest Mouse and The Pixies as influences, but there is no doubt that TYM has for developed a sound well and truly his own.
Toro y Moi is performing at the QSW arts centre on Jan 14.
