After two successful years in Shanghai, the annual Ladyfest event returns this weekend, bringing a 2-day event filled with new and engaging workshops, performances, and installations. This year’s theme is 'Evolution', with events focused on what evolution means to women. The event starts with an opening party at 8pm on Friday at Yuyintang. The main Ladyfest takes places on Saturday from midday at Basement6, followed by an after party from 10pm round the corner at DADA.

Kode9 is the father figure of sub-genre sinogrime - you can read more about it on our music page. Harbin's Sayer and Shanghai's Aivilox, Howell and Kilo-Vee provide support.

Strictly Cookies has launched a fun new series called 'Strictly Cookies and one sandwich' where they're collaborating with some of Shanghai's finest to create drool-worthy sandwiches. This month, head down to the Xiangyang Bei Lu cookie window and sink your teeth into The UMi Bunwich, from Rénel Sun and Phoebe Tran (formerly known as Burger Babes). This wild creation is made by encasing caramel pulled pork, pickled daikon and carrots, toasty peanuts, crispy shallots, and a dash of lime in a chip-encrusted brioche bun. It's available Thu-Sun only (until sold out) starting from 5pm tonight (4 March) until 27 March. Priced at 45RMB/bunwich, or 60RMB with a cookie and drink, it's a bargain.

US indie-orchestral pop outfit (who you might remember played with Rainbow Danger Club a few years ago) return to Shanghai as part of a China tour, with support from Parachutes on Fire (featuring former members of The Horde and Friend or Foe) and PLA soldier-turned-folk singer-songwriter Liu Jian. And if you can't make Saturday, it's worth bearing in mind that NRO are also at Inferno on Sunday.
