The people behind Burning Man satellite event Dragon Burn 2016 - taking place 'somewhere in Anji' at the end of May - have put out a call to action for locally-based artists to get involved with this year's event.
2016's edition will be the third Dragon Burn and organisers are getting together at the fantastic new Cambio Coffee space this Thursday (April 7) at 7.30pm to discuss plans. They're asking for any 'artists, art lovers and creative thinkers' interested in getting involved to join them there to work out how to contribute 'art installations, music, performances' or just volunteer.
From May 27-29, Dragon Burners will be heading to the beautiful bamboo forested mountains of Anji for an event that brings together 'a community of volunteers that have been moved and inspired by the Burning Man ethos'. Tickets are 250RMB per person and the bus there is a further 150RMB; the entire event is not for profit.
Though it understandably differs in scale from the original in Nevada, Dragon Burn is an official satellite event linked to Burning Man and follows many of the same founding philosophies. In essence, the Dragon Burn organisers say that 'the principles that make the event more interesting than others (and more difficult) are radical self reliance, leave no trace and decommodification. When people are no longer surrounded by money and commerce they change. Those moments are precious and the founding volunteers of Dragon Burn are trying to share that unique interaction with the people that come to Dragon Burn.'
After three days of arts, seminars and general good vibes, the festival climaxes with the burning of a crowd-funded effigy.
