Shanghai Strawberry Festival 2016 organisers Modern Sky may be planning a dedicated EDM festival two weeks after their showpiece May music event in Shanghai, but that hasn't stopped them from announcing two distinctly electronic-leaning acts as headliners for the May holiday festival as well. British groups The Prodigy and Modestep are the first two names to be announced for the Strawberry Festival line-up in Shanghai.
'Firestarter', 'Breathe', 'Smack My Bitch Up' - The Prodigy, comprised of Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim, have been responsible for some massive tracks since forming in Essex in 1990, earning them the label 'the Godfathers of rave'. They put out their sixth album, the darker, 'more violent' The Day is My Enemy last year before going on tour with Public Enemy.
Oddly, the ingenious video for 'Smack My Bitch Up' doesn't seem to fit with Xi Dada's vision of a harmonious internet here in China, but fortunately old-school favourite 'Firestarter' has slipped through - you cabn watch it by clicking 'read more' at the bottom.
Also hailing from the UK, Modestep have been confirmed as another of the acts set to take the stage at this year's Strawberry Festival. Often described as a 'dubstep band', you might know them from their single 'Sunshine'.
Early bird tickets for Strawberry Festival 2016 went on sale at midday today (Monday 28 March), priced at 519RMB and including a free pair of VR glasses in line with the festival's theme of 'The world is virtual, you are the reality.' The festival is from 30 April to 2 May at the Expo Garden Park.
