Storytelling brings imagination and collaboration alive. It has been happening since the beginning of time across all cultures and age groups. Even now, we live our lives in terms of the stories we tell and the stories we listen to. Titled “Chinese Whispers”, this year’s event features collaborations between visual artists and writers, revolving aroundthe theme of storytelling. It will be held at the Xujiahui BaseCo, a creative space that helps create and foster communities of people, from June 18 to 22.

This collaborative exhibition promotes creative thinking across different industries, professions and disciplines.
“Stories can conquer fear, you know. They can make the heart bigger.” – Ben Okri.
The writers were tasked to continue on from the chapter before them and write the next part of the story to express their own individual style, while keeping the overall plot in mind. Each one was then passed onto hand-picked visualizers who will create their own interpretation of each chapter. A curated mix of people across all industries including a playwright, architect, rock musician, children’s book author, art collector, barista…and even a comic book superhero will be featured. 40 people, 15 different countries, 27 professional occupations.
All proceeds from ‘Chinese Whispers’ will go towards the Library Project by Heart to Heart, providing support to children from low-income families in rural China. This is a direct and meaningful way to make a real impact. Held in Xujiahui base CO, it will be open to the public to enjoy from 18-22 June.
