The best of the week

Make the most of your week with Time Out's essential guide to Monday 9 - Sunday 15 November

Around Town
The Dating Monologues
Daliah, Wednesday 11 November

This Singles' Day, hear dating stories - good, bad, scary, one-night stands and the rest - submitted by people living in Shanghai. Organised by Ladefest, 'The Dating Monologues' will be read and/or acted out by the improv group People's Republic of Comedy. Expect games, raffles and more. It'll be a fun, funny and educational night.

See our guide to bargains on Singles' Day, dating and more on our website.

Art
Media - Dali
K11, until February 15

See Salvador Dali's work ranging from famous oil painting 'Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea Which at Twenty Meters Becomes the Portrait of Abraham Lincoln (Homage to Rothko)' to his lesser-known illustrations on magazine covers.

Read online for what to expect at the Media -Dali exhibition.

Bars & Clubs
Slackk
The Shelter, Saturday 14 November

In recent years, grime’s arsenal of instrumental weaponry has expanded from London into the wider world, and taken over clubs and festivals the all over the globe. Slackk’s parties have been described as the glue that holds London Grime together, and he’ll be bringing a slice of that to The Shelter this month. On support there will be Alta and Naaah, who run Push & Pull (arguably China’s first (and only) grime-focused monthly club night), Swimful, who is blurring grime’s already blurred frontiers and Wooozy regular Sleepless.

Film
Spectre
In cinemas, from Friday 13 November

The latest Bond outing, Spectre, is a film that gathers all the great – and some of the not-so-great – things about the three previous films in the Craig-as-Bond cycle into one rousing, spectacular, scattershot and somewhat overextended victory lap. See Daniel Craig return with Sam Mendes at the helm for more girls, gags and bad guys - word is the man himself might be in Shanghai for the premiere too...

See our website for an interview with Daniel Craig on why he's 'over Bond'.

Music
Taylor Swift
Mercedes Benz Arena, Tuesday 10 - Thursday 12 November

Following her sold out show here last year, Tay Tay returns to Shanghai this month for not one but three shows, despite her using the somewhat sensitive title of the 1989 Tour. All of the three concerts are already sold out - apparently people can't get enough of her, maybe hold your very own Taylor Swift concert in one of those KTVs in the city and sing through all of her songs instead?

Theatre
War Horse
Shanghai Culture Square, from Sunday 15 November - Sunday 17 January

A collaboration between the National Theatre of the UK and the National Theatre of China brings the Mandarin version of War Horse to Shanghai, with a starring-role puppet you can't believe is made of cane and nylon. This is the theatre event of the year. Don't miss out.

Read our previews and interviews with director Alex Sims, puppet director Tommy Luther on our website.
