Sweatshop's Siesta Loca

For the ninth year running, Siesta dusts off the old vinyl and plays all the hits from the past with the Sweatshop collective and friends. This time she’s playing a 3 hour retrospective set - the best of drum’n’bass/jungle spanning from 1997 to 2012... in chronological order. D'n'b heads are in for a treat. Support from Monk, Arkaik, Resinate and MC Jado.

Il Tai Dai Amis: A Culinary Journey to Friuli

Fogolar Furlan are a social group who promote the virtues of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia around the world - virtues we can all get behind, such as great wines, cheeses and ham - while giving erstwhile residents of Trieste and the region a chance to network and alleviate their homesickness through events. This Saturday, the Shanghai branch are throwing their annual fair on the rooftop of Anken Green with the aforementioned quality food and drink items on offer, plus lots more. It's a good fun, community event and a great chance to try some of the best imported products from the region. Tickets are 270RMB for non-members and available right now from Fumin Lu's Mandi Mandi; the entry price includes a bunch of free food and drink too.

Eco Design Fair 2016

In its eighth year, this weekend-long celebration of everything eco promotes a greener way of living and the mantra to 'repair, reuse, refil and recycle'. Highlights include a clothing swap shop, a fix-and-repair station, and hearty healthy food from the folks at Hunter Gatherer. 

Sixth Annual Shanghai Barbecue Cook-Off

Saturday 4 June, 11am, Bubba's Hongqiao

Bubba's big barbecue battle is back. Head to the Texas barbecue joint's Hongqiao branch for this annual celebration of all things grilled, where ten teams will be jostling for the title of 'Grand Master of the barbecue pit'. There'll be live music as well, and a 300RMB buy in gets you all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink all day. Not enough barbecue for you? The Great Australian Barbecue, organised by the folks at business group AustCham, is taking place the same day at Wellington College.

Losing My Mind: Parachutes on Fire's last show

Parachutes on Fire (pictured) play their final show in Shanghai, going out in a blaze of glory with support from Round Eye, Lifeline, Molemen, GOOOOSE and DJ BO. Siesta will be slinging her Pie Society pies and the Capoeira Mandinga will be bringing some afternoon acrobatics into the mix too.

Come and spend the afternoon hanging out in YYT, picnic-ing in the park and enjoying some quality local music as a farewell to Adam Crossley, who has been a staunch supporter of the local music scene for many years through bands such as Friend or Foe, Break for Borneo and now Parachutes on Fire.
