We know New Year's runs the risk of being an over-hyped and underwhelming experience. But that doesn't mean we should give up and sit in front of Chinese Jools Holland, does it?
Of course there are tons of parties going on in the city. We've chosen a handful of the best ones here - click 'read more' below to see the full rundown of NYE parties in Shanghai, from Arkham to the 91st floor of the Park Hyatt and everything in between.
Gold NYE 2016 - Bar Rouge

One of Shanghai's most glamourous bars goes gold to welcome 2016 with plenty of sparkly pretty things decking out the venue and Champagne bottles working their way around the dolled up revellers.

The Same as it Ever Was x Popasuda - Dada

Two of Dada's most popular parties team up for one night only: Santo Chino's The Same As It Ever Was and Skinny Brown's Popasuda. The music will go back and forth in time, and side to side around the world, for a big mix of good, fun music to bring in the new year. They will rotate DJs each hour.

Onra STD NYE - Arkham

Onra’s working method mirrors that of ‘90s golden era hip hop artists – he keeps it simple with an Akai MPC sampler, and lots of records to plunder. On his most recent album Fundamentals, he has admitted to trying to evoke the same feelings he felt as a hip hop obsessed teen. STD helps you ring in the new year.

Disco Heaven II - Park Hyatt

Well there should be disco music, and given it's on the 91st floor of the bottle opener you may well feel pretty close to heaven. It won't be a cheap night - 1,288RMB (plus service charge) on the door for free flow food and high-end booze, plus entry to the after party at M1NT.
