The best of the week
Make the most of your week with Time Out's essential guide to Monday 4 - Sunday 10 January.
Impermanent Sceneries
Fri 8 Jan - Sun 28 Feb, Art+, Free

Hu Weiqi, Sun Yu and Zhang Wenchao's surreal, bold paintings, projections and prints form the basis of this new exhibition at Art+.
Fjaak
Fri 8, Arkham, 80RMB

Mixing UK bass music with classic house, this German trio have engineered what they say is a blend of live music and vinyl. The night at Arkham will also feature art installations and engaging visual displays.
We spoke to Fjaak about their favourite records from their stacks of wax - you can find the interview on our website.
Theatre Movement Bazaar: Big Shot
Thu 7 -Sat 9, Shanghai Grand Theatre, 100-280RMB

For nearly two decades, the Los Angeles-based Theatre Movement Bazaar has been matching movements with words, and electrifying the classics. The excellent company takes a break from Chekov and tackles a different kind of classic; Big Shot is their vaudevillian homage to The Godfather, now full of song and story.
We're told audiences should expect singing, dancing, and pasta(?).
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
General release from Sat 9

After JJ Abrams and the stars graced People's Square for the China premiere at the Shanghai Grand Theatre last weekend, the (probably) most awaited film of the decade finally opens in Chinese cinemas on Saturday. Book ahead if you're hoping to get to a screening this weekend.
Check out our online interview with British star John Boyega on working with Harrison Ford and crying in the back of the cinema (the two are unrelated).
Lydmor + Heems
Thu 7, Yuyintang, 60RMB

The last time Lydmor came to Shanghai - in October 2014 - she ended her show in the middle of the floor at Yuyintang on her knees and clutching her microphone while the audience looked on absolutely captivated. Since then, the dane has been casting similar spells on crowds across the globe with her utterly charming sets of piano-propelled ballads and Lykke Li-esque electro-pop, and she returns to YYT on the same bill is ex-Das Racist rapper Heems. Take a look at our full interview with Lydmor on our website.
Elsewhere, Adam Lambert comes to the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Tuesday 5 to the delight of his many fans here in China, and Nanjing-born jazz guitarist Zhang Xiongguan brings his hard bop influenced material to On Stage on Saturday 9.
