The best of the week
The weather outside is frightful. But we've got 6 things for you to do this week that are rather delightful. So since there's no place to go, let it snow? (See the post below...)

Kaskade
Fri 22, Fusion, 150RMB
Chicago-born producer Ryan Gary Raddon, better known as Kaskade, has had his name become a regular feature on those ‘world’s best DJ’ lists and he’s picked up five Grammy Award nominations since 2013, including for his remix of Galantis’ ‘Runaway (U & I)’ which may well prove triumphant at next month’s ceremony. Check out our interview with the man himself on our music page about his new album and juggling touring with being a father of three.
And on Sunday, the record junkies at Daily Vinyl Weekend are throwing a block party to help us all prolong the fun this weekend. Uptown RnB, Organic Kitchen and JZ Club will be hosting events during the day (1-7pm), Arcade, The Shelter and JZ Club will keep things going late into the night (7pm until who knows when). The whole shebang is free, except for the party at The Shelter, where entry will set you back just 20RMB.

The Emerson Quartet
Fri 22, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall, 180-380RMB
The multi award-winning ensemble come to the SSO. The group have been earning accolades for nearly four decades, and what's more players are able to carve out their own careers. The programme includes string quartets by Schubert, Shostakovich and Dvorak. Not to be missed.

Elsewhere, Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra roll into town this weekend to deliver two jam-packed programmes on Friday and Saturday night, including Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 and Mahler's Symphony No. 1.

Career Suicide
Weds 20, Yuyintang, 50RMB
Canadian hardcore punk act that launched the careers of Fucked Up members Johan Falco and Mike Haliechuk return from hiatus to tear things up at YYT.
And for some mid-week revelry, a big line-up of Scandinavian and Russian folk metal hits MAO on Wednesday as Finntroll, Arkona and Dream Spirit come to Shanghai for Painkillerfest 2016. An attractive combination of bands for those who like their metal with plenty of pagan imagery.
