Ok, you've probably heard how seriously cold things are going to get this weekend, with temperatures reportedly getting down to -7 degrees Celsius in the centre of Shanghai. But there are still some events worth leaving the apartment for (and one that doesn't even require stepping outside).

     Kaskade

Fri 22, Fusion, 150RMB

Chicago-born producer Ryan Gary Raddon, better known as Kaskade, has had his name become a regular feature on ‘world’s best DJ’ lists and has picked up five Grammy Award nominations since 2013, including for his remix of Galantis’s ‘Runaway (U & I)’ which may well prove triumphant at next month’s ceremony. Go if you like putting your hands up in the air.

Hesher punk night

Friday 22, Inferno, Free

Hesher Has Culture host a free night at Inferno featuring long-running hardcore act Loudspeaker, punks Dirty Fingers and the always entertaining Spill Your Guts. Expect the bands to kick off at 10pm.

3

Vinyl block party

Sun 24, Yongfu Lu/Fuxing Xi Lu,  Free (Shelter 20RMB)

Party on a Sunday? Why not? The record junkies at Daily Vinyl Weekend are throwing a block party for their latest celebration of wax. Uptown RnB, Organic Kitchen and JZ Club will be hosting events during the day (1-7pm), Arcade, The Shelter and JZ Club again will keep things going late into the night (7pm until who knows when). Lets hope that snow holds off...

The Emerson Quartet

Fri 22, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall, 180-380RMB

This multi award-winning ensemble come to the SSO with quite a reputation. The group have been earning accolades for nearly four decades, and what's more players are able to carve out their own careers. Programme includes string quartets by Schubert, Shostakovich and Dvorak. Not to be missed.

Order in Haidilao

Given how much less appealing leaving the apartment becomes at times such as these, we've included this option for the weekend: get your friends over, stay in and order a home-cooked Haidilao hotpot. Mmm.

For a minimum order of 268RMB (plus various service fees), Haidilao will not only deliver their quality range of fresh vegetables, meats and noodles, but will also send someone to set up a hot pot inside your home. For an extra 200RMB, they’ll even arrange for a member of waitstaff to come round to your place and cook everything for you.

To order, visit the dedicated Haidilao delivery website, select your city and then your nearest branch, before proceeding to the menu and selecting your items (the site is Chinese only, but the menu is mostly based on pictures if you don’t read characters). Alternatively, you can call 4008 107 107 and order over the phone. More details at timeoutshanghai.com/winter.
