Tickets for the opening day of Shanghai Disneyland were snapped up quickly after tickets went on sale at midnight last night. Early reports, including one from the Shanghai Morning Post, stated that tickets were completely sold within five minutes. But according to the South China Morning Post, the website had actually crashed until 12.28 am due to the huge demand from users.
The 499RMB tickets, including those for the opening day, then resumed normal sales at 9.30 am and were all sold out just two hours later. Both the Toy Story Hotel and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel also sold out their hotel rooms for the first two weeks of the resort's opening by noon today.
You really ought to know by now, but just in case you've somehow missed the news, Shanghai Disneyland is set to open to the public at midday on Thursday 16 June.
While the Shanghai Disney resort is trying to prevent any ticket scalping by requiring buyers to register their ID numbers when purchasing, tickets are already appearing on online marketplace Taobao - a quick search yields results from 1RMB to more than 3,000RMB, including promises to deliver tickets by the end of March.
