The best of the week

Design Shanghai
Wed 9 - Sat 12, Shanghai Exhibition Centre
The ever-expanding Design Shanghai is back this week for four days of exhibitions, installations, debates, and seminars. Ahead of its kick-off, Time Out spoke to creative director Ross Urwin about the designers to look out for, and what we can expect from the world of design at the festival and beyond - you can find the interview on our website.

DJ Spinna
Fri 11, The Shelter, Cover TBA
Having worked with the likes of Eminem, De La Soul and Mary J Blige, Spinna moved into house production in the early 2000s. He remains a key figure in New York hip hop however, as well as helping organise regular tribute parties to Stevie Wonder, one of his musical heroes. He hits The Shelter on Friday for an all-45s set.
Elsewhere, self-described queer-friendly 'trash chic' party Rossetto is back on Saturday, once again popping up at Kulou and this time the theme is 'the zoo'. Expect an atmosphere somewhere between a European house party and a DIY school disco.

OKT: Hamletas
Thurs 10 - Sun 13, Shanghai Centre for Dramatic Arts, 180-380RMB
Reinventing Hamlet is the perpetual challenge of theatremakers, but few have taken greater risks than Oskaras Korsunovas, director of Lithuania’s Oskaras Korsunovas Theatre (OKT). It's creative and sometimes deep, but not for the faint of heart. Worth bearing in mind is that the performance is in Lithuanian with Mandarin subtitles.

Ip Man 3
On general release now
Billed as Donnie Yen's last martial arts movie, Ip Man 3 sees the decorated Hong Kong actor cast alongside Mike Tyson (Yen reportedly broke the ex-boxer's finger during filming - something he told us was an 'accident'). Keep an eye on our website for our full interview with Donnie Yen. The film is on general release now.

John Grant
Tues 8, SSO Concert Hall, 80RMB
Former frontman for alt-country act The Czars John Grant performs in Shanghai for the SSO and Split Works' Contemporale series. Grant's witty, heart-breakingly honest songs are truly something to behold and this ought to be a special show. Tickets are unfortunately sold out - enjoy if you managed to get your hands on one.
Elsewhere, Godspeed You! Black Emperor return to QSW on Saturday after their barnstorming show at the same venue in 2013. The fiercely independent nine-member post-rockers have only released a handful of albums over the past two decades, yet have built a cult following and are one of the biggest names in a genre that always draws big crowds in Shanghai.
