Glasses are abundant in Shanghai – there’s even an optical market underneath the Time Out office, lest any of our staff feel like freshening up their look midway through the working day – but we’ve never seen a pair of specs quite like these. Thanks to Biz Eyes, the term ‘funky eyewear’ no longer needs to be associated with somebody experiencing a midlife crisis; instead, the 3D printed designs make a genuinely avant-garde fashion statement.

The designer is Tehran born Nasim Sehat, who studied architecture in Barcelona before moving to Shanghai. Sehat cites expressionism, minimalism, and the ‘dynamic culture of the modern metropolis’ as the inspiration for Biz Eyes, also drawing on music, comic book superheroes, and general popular culture.

The glasses are composed of a base frame constructed in a sturdy transparent resin, upon which can be attached a variety of different geometric designs via interlocking joints.

There are currently two collections available – ‘Genesis’, which explores the circle as a form, and ‘Cream on Chrome’, where more shapes and structures come into play in a dual-colour palette. If you get bored of one, you can just slot in another. Something tells us, though, that you’ll attract curious looks whichever one you’re wearing. Stick a pair of these on and wait for the flash of the street style photographers.

Biz Eyes base frame plus two designs costs from 950-1,500RMB, and is produced to order, taking between 10 and 20 days to manufacture, dye, assemble and deliver. Browse the full range and preorder on the website www.bizeyes.biz.
