It's been a good few days for The Revenant. After taking home three Academy Awards at the Oscars on Sunday night, it has been announced that the film will also be getting a China release later this month.
The intense drama/thriller, for which Leonard DiCaprio finally got his hands on an Oscar for best actor, will be released in cinemas from March 18, although there are worries some of the films particularly violent scenes (of which there are many) will be cut for Chinese audiences.
DiCaprio - or 小李 (Little Li) - as he's affectionately known here, has big appeal in China stretching back to his starring role in Titanic. There was an outpouring of pleasure on Chinese social media when he picked up his Oscar on Sunday and there have also been reports that DiCaprio will be travelling to China to help promote The Revenant's release next month. Although nothing has been confirmed just yet, we remain hopeful a stop off in Shanghai will be included in his itinerary.

Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, picked up gongs for best cinematography, best director and of course Leo's much anticipated accolade for best actor. The film was co-financed by Chinese company Alpha Animation through its Hong Kong subsidiary Alpha, meaning a release here has long been on the cards. However, given China's lack of a ratings system (meaning all films have to be family friendly), it seems likely that there will be cuts.
