After our weather predictions backfired last weekend, we'll keep out of the guessing game and instead keep to the business of what we know is going down this weekend in Shanghai.

The best of the weekend

Design Shanghai

Branding itself Asia's leading international design event, Design Shanghai triumphantly returned to the city on Wednesday. The show once again has thousands of new product launches as well as prestigious design pieces brought here from around the world. Ahead of the four day event, we took a sneak peek at some of the pieces not to miss - you can find that on our blog.

Design Shanghai is at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre untl Saturday, 10am-6pm.

   DJ Spinna

The underground house and hip hop legend returns to Shanghai with an all-45s set at The (appropriately underground) Shelter. Having worked with the likes of Eminem, De La Soul and Mary J Blige, Spinna moved into house production in the early 2000s. He remains a key figure in New York hip hop however, as well as helping organise regular tribute parties to Stevie Wonder, one of his musical heroes. Check out our full interview with DJ Spinna on our music page.

DJ Spinna is at The Shelter tonight (Friday), 10pm, 80RMB

The Shanghai derby

Shanghai SIPG get their 2016 Chinese Super League campaign underway with a Shanghai derby against Shenhua at the Shanghai Stadium. SIPG surprised many with their tilt at the title last season, taking the championship fight with eventual winners Guangzhou Evergrande all the way down to the final game. You'll be able to get tickets at ticket offices at the ground, or from one of the many touts.

Shanghai SPIG vs. Shanghai Shenhua is at the Shanghai stadium tonight at 7.30pm.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Having brought Godspeed You! Black Emperor to Shanghai for the first time in 2013, Split Works are bringing them back for 2016. Their 2013 show was phenomenal and one of the highlights of the year, but if you haven't got a ticket for this already, hard cheese - it's completely sold out.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor play the QSW Arts Centre on Saturday at 8.30pm, sold out.

   Shackup

Beijing's Shackup kicks off a quarterly residency at The Shelter with support from Swimful and Howell. A leading light in China's underground electronic scene, Shackup deals in innovative, bassy sounds. And if this picture's anything to go by, things should be good on the eyes as well as the ears.

Shackup is at The Shelter on Saturday, 10pm, 40RMB.
