The best of the weekend
Celebrate two Shanghai record releases

Kai Luen
Friday 22, The Shelter, 50RMB
Deep 19
Saturday 23, Elevator, 50RMB
Two local record releases to get excited about this weekend as Shanghai label SVBKVLT unveil Beijing-based producer Kai Luen's The Hollow Ghost album on Friday and then Co:Motion launch Deep 19's new EP on Saturday.
Kai Luen is better known as Soulspeak, the hip hop beat-making alias of US-born producer Jeff Liang. His latest release inhabits a distinctly separate sonic world however, with ten tracks exploring ‘decay and consciously destroying old ghosts’ through gritty, sparse sounds. Find out more in a full interview with Kai Luen on our website.
The next night, Shanghainese DJ and producer Deep 19's dark, bass-driven new EP gets a release party at Elevator. MIIIA and Raz will support, along with Mickey Zhang and Eli Osheyak who'll be dropping a live techno set.
