Echo Music Festival
August 13-14, Expo Garden Park, 520-2160RMB
British pop singer Jessie J and US producer DJ Shadow are both due back in Shanghai for this pop-leaning festival on the former Expo site. Joining them are Belgian EDM DJ Yves V, Japanese-Brazilian romantic balladeer Lisa Ono and German singer-songwriter Maximillian Hecker.
Big-name Mandopop stars Pu Shu, Jolin Tsai and Li Yuchun will also feature. Elsewhere, you'll find brilliant indie-rockers Omnipotent Youth Society, one of our favourite new Shanghai bands Dream Can, plus a cast of locally-based DJs including Conrank, Cavia and hbd.

The Legend of Tarzan
On general release, cinemas around town
This latest incarnation of the bare-chested tree-swinger is poised to be one of this summer's biggest blockbusters. And like many blockbusters, impressive on-screen effects may not quite make up for the lacklustre script and a plot that harbours a hole or two. But go into the theatre with a glass-half-full and there's plenty of opportunity to get swept up in the adventure.

The stars of the tennis world descend on Shanghai for a week to fight it out in the magnificent Qizhong Forest Sports City Tennis Center as part of the ATP Tour. Tickets are already going fast for the all-week packages, so grab one while you can.
