A couple of weeks ago we told you about Split Works' Echo Park Festival having to change its name to Concrete and Grass Festival because of a similarly named music event taking place in Shanghai this summer. Well now we have more details on Echo Music Festival - including the news that British pop singer Jessie J and US producer DJ Shadow are both due back in town for the festival.
Jessie J was last here in 2014 when she performed at Mercedes-Benz Arena and is best known for her hit 'Price Tag' (watch below), which features the chorus 'it's not about the money, money, money', though in this case it's tempting to suggest that it probably is.
Having burst into the charts with her debut album Who You Are, Jessie J's follow ups Alive and Sweet Talker performed less favourably, but she's recently been attempting to revive her fortunes as a judge on The Voice Australia and through performing in NBC's TV special version of Grease: Live last year.
Master sampler DJ Shadow, best known for his groundbreaking record Endtroducing, will also feature on the Echo Festival bill in August, eight years on from his Shanghai debut at bling bling club Richy (though he has also been back since).
Joining them for the two-day festival on the former Expo site are Belgian EDM DJ Yves V, one-time Tricky collaborator Fifi Rong and Japanese-Brazilian romantic balladeer Lisa Ono. Big-name Mandopop stars Pu Shu, Jolin Tsai and Li Yuchun will also feature, though the small print states that Li will only be playing a 'mini live set', whatever that means.
Elsewhere, you'll find some familiar Chinese festival names including brilliant indie-rockers Omnipotent Youth Society, one of our favourite new Shanghai bands Dream Can, Beijing dance-pop act Queen Sea Big Shark, plus a cast of locally-based DJs such as Conrank, Cavia and hbd. Do Hits' Howie Lee and excellent hip hop duo J-Fever and Soulspeak will also be joining from Beijing, along with DJ Wordy.
