The Willy group has the amazing ability to take any meal and turn it into something playful, fun, and most importantly, ‘sexy’. And the latest addition to the el Willy offerings, the Sexy Tower, is no exception. This tea set for two is a delight for your eyes, your camera, and your taste buds (298RMB per couple including tea or coffee, plus 38RMB per glass of Cava).
Amping up the participatory element of the dining experience, afternoon tea comes with an eating guide and diagram, to help you move seamlessly through the savoury and sweet bites for optimal flavour and eating pleasure.
The set kicks off with the bird’s nest, in which you’ll find a mini steamed chorizo bun stuffed with a soft poached quail egg. Moving down the tower, there’s a square of toasted tomato bread with Iberian ham, followed by a show-stopping salmon-topped tart filled with sour cream and honey. The last of the savoury options is a luxurious, crispy foie gras sandwich accompanied by a smoked chilli jelly. Drool.

And then come the sweets. A satisfyingly indulgent mix of fruit and chocolate, and of textures and sweetness, including liquid doughnuts (white clothing beware), Lego chocolates, passionfruit and vanilla jelly, and super delicious coconut marshmallows. Finally, to top off the epic adventure are chocolate churros and homemade brandy truffles. No sweet craving goes unfulfilled.
El Willy’s Sexy Tower manages to be fun and unique, while maintaining the high attention to taste and quality you’d expect from the Willy group. After wowing us last year with their joyous picnic afternoon tea at elEfante, they’ve one-upped themselves with this new offering. Certainly one to indulge in if you love afternoon tea and would rather swap the white tablecloths and silverware for some astroturf and miniature farm animals.
el Willy is at South Bund 22, 22 Zhongshan Dong Er Lu, near Jinling Lu.
