British pop singer Charli XCX is set to perform in Shanghai this autumn as part of the first Fashion Rocks event in Asia. And, she's told Time Out, Usher is set to join her for the concert and catwalk show in October.
Although organisers have only publicly confirmed that Charli XCX will be headlining at the Oriental Sports Centre so far, the Cambridge-born star told us that 'I've heard Usher is coming too' and that she's set to work with one of Time Out's favourite Chinese designers Sankuanz (check out a gallery of the label's brilliantly bold designs here). More artists and fashion designers are expected to be officially announced for the event soon.
Fashion Rocks launched in London in 2003 with Beyoncé, Björk and Duran Duran performing, while collections from Donatella Versace and Alexander McQueen were showcased in aid of The Prince's Trust. Since then, it's been rolled out as a brand across the world, and over the years some of the biggest names in the fashion and music industries have joined forces for the event.
Having been writing songs since she was 14 years-old, singer Charli XCX shot to fame a few years ago through her debut album plus appearances (and writing credits) on Icona Pop's 'I Love It' and Iggy Azalea's 'Fancy'. Known for her alternative take on pop, Charli's second LP - 2014's Sucker - also spawned a number of top ten singles including 'Break the Rules' and 'Doing It'.
Her experimental, Sophie-produced EP Vroom Vroom was released in February this year and she says she has a new album ready to go, but that the release date 'is on the label'.
