Concrete & Grass is China’s grooviest music festival. This year, it goes down over the mid-autumn holidays – September 16-17 - when the weather is
warm and the living is easy. It’s Shanghai’s own #APlaceLessOrdinary – chock-full of great bands, weird art, strange creatures and fun distractions. Our venue, the wonderful Shanghai Rugby Football Club, is a lovingly curated and intimate space set in lush fields of real grass.
We’re a little bit different from the average Chinese festival.

4 stages of amazing music, from the pogo-happy Stage Left to the dark allure of the Yurt. There’ll be the fashionable vibes at the Garage, presented this year by SHANGPIN.COM/TOPSHOP/TOPMAN. There’ll be the most ultimate of Frisbee. Unicycle riding, live art, great drinks and food. High-fives and hugs.
Our music lineup goes deep and wide, with a forensically assembled bill.
From Japan’s indie darlings SEKAI NO OWARI and rising hip-hop star A$AP Ferg to punk legends The Cribs and slacker-rock icon Stephen Malkmus with his Jicks, there’s something for everyone at the ‘Grass – from pop and emo to punk and metal, from shoegaze and hip hop, to the widest selection of electronic goodness this side of Tokyo, plus a liberal sprinkling of the unusual and unexpected. In short, the best of China and the world.

There’s also plenty of action beyond the stages. China’s young and restless, let loose in our wonderland. There’s outsider art, produced live. Installations to excite and (sometimes) provoke. Craft cocktails from the dark side. Objects of wonder and delight. And let’s not forget food (so much food), sports, games, bad puns, ice cream and a few other surprises we like to throw every year.

It’s always exciting. Emotionally charged. The happiest weekend of the year. The perfect escape from the urban grind.
So join us in September. Take in the sights and sounds. The tastes and smells. Lose yourself to the music. Dance. It’s the sound of something extraordinary. We can’t wait to see you there.
