Art

Felix Gonzalez-Torres

Friday 30, Rockbund Art Museum, 30RMB (10RMB for students)

Opening this week, RAM presents over 40 selected artworks from artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres. Renowned for his unconventional methodology and poignant sensitivity, this is a show not to be missed.

Bars & Clubs

Anderson .Paak

Tuesday 27, MAO Livehouse, 250RMB (200RMB presale)

Anderson .Paak went from drumming in a church band in his youth to helping manage a (legal) marijuana farm, before his breakthrough came when he appeared on and co-wrote six tracks on Dr Dre’s 2015 comeback record Compton. He'll be performing his funked up brand of hip hop and nu-soul with a full live band, The Free Nationals. Take this chance to see one of the most exciting musicians of the year on his rise to the top.

Elsewhere, the godfathers of Shanghai nightlife Antidote are bringing in another godfather in the form of legendary UK label Mute Records founder Daniel Miller on Thursday night. Before launching the careers of Depeche Mode and Moby, Mute started with ‘Warm Leatherette’, a cult-hit single by Miller’s own band The Normal, and successively went on to release wave after wave of forward-thinking post-punk and electro.

Food&Drink

West Bund Food Festival

Saturday 1-Friday 7 Oct, near the Yuz Museum, 180RMB

The first West Bund Food Festival will be taking place on the riverbank near Yuz Museum on Longteng Avenue. They're promising several international chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants - including top-tier chef Corrado Michelazzo from 10 Corso Como - along with higher-end Chinese options from well-known national brands such as (the newly Michelin starred) Da Dong. Tickets at the door starts from 180RMB, which allows afternoon entry and includes 120RMB to spend on food plus a free boozy drink.

Music

Queen + Adam Lambert

Monday 26, Mercedes-Benz Arena, 560-1680RMB

We've been waiting for it for months, but this week Queen finally land in Shanghai fronted by popstar-turned-rockstar Adam Lambert. The revived glam rockers will be making their first appearance in Mainland China, though Lambert himself has of course been here a number of times before. Expect all the hits - and check out our interview with Queen drummer Roger Taylor on today's WeChat bulletin.
