We've raved before about how much we love getting down to The Bund early morning to watch old folks doing tai chi on Shanghai's historic waterfront, but last Saturday (18 June) there were more practitioners there than usual. Upwards of 3,000 citizens came together for the opening of the Shanghai's first Citizen Martial Arts Festival, showing off various martial arts skills such as tai chi, wing chun and mulan boxing.
The participants were of all ages and drawn from well-known martial arts organisations in Shanghai such as the Shanghai Jingwu Sports Association and Chinese Martial Arts Society of Shanghai.

The showcase was one of 12 big events planned as part of the martial arts festival, which hopes to promote the spirit of Chinese martial arts in all walks of life including in schools, businesses and families.
